HISTORY

The main house of the Agritourism dates back to somewhere between the end of the 1700's and the beginning of the 1800's. Its size over time has been reduced; infact the only part still present is where the dining area for the restaurant is found and where there were once the stalls and cellar.

On the top floor there were bedrooms, a place where meat was hung and cured and a holding place for olives awaiting the press.

Later the central part of the house was built and was utilized on the first floor as the bottom owners' habitation, while on the ground level there were the cellars and various animal stalls.

In the beginning of the 1900's the last part of the structure was created, the current habitation of the owners, in which there was a pigsty on the ground level and a hayloft on the upper level. The stone archways that characterize the facades are still visible today, especially the northeast facade. These specific arches, which give the agritourism its name, bring back the memory of open, arched facades of the antique hayloft.

The history of the last family of farmers who lived here tells us that an intense agricultural activity was employed. It's for this reason that we have wanted to take back and evaluate its original identity. In Pomarance, like in Volterra, alabaster was a main source of art and trade since the time of the Etruscans.

In the surrounding fields of the house and neighbouring area, great white masses of rock and plaster are found that were once pieces of leftover alabaster during production.

This is why the antique farm had the name, "I Gessi" for many centuries.

THE STRUCTURE and the COUNTRY VIEW

I Tre Archi Agritourism is found in the town of Pomarance in the Volterran hillsides, on the border between Pisa and Siena.

From the property, you can see green hillsides decorated with antique farm homes, flocks of sheep, fields of grain, olive orchards and vineyards, surrounded by cypress trees an mediterranean bush.

No other large constructions disturb the landscape. The suns sets in front of the swiming pool and covered porch, creating at times, scenarios of intense color and bewilderment.

The stonehouse is found in the central position, where the oldest part dates back to 1700. It has been recently restored in respect to Tuscan style, utilizing only materials from the original structure, with extra care for every detail to make way for a more comfortable stay.

The ceilings were rigorously constructed with wooden beams, cross beams and stone slabs taken from the original structure and the floors are terracotta.
