Not much needs to be added about what people already know about
the touristic charm of Tuscany; guests
here can visit the important cities of art like Florence,
Siena and Pisa
in about an hour or less by car.
There are other tourisitic "gems" of Tuscany that can
be visited and are much closer like Volterra,
San Gimignano, Massa
Marittima, Monteriggioni, San
Galgano, Monte Uliveto Maggiore,
just to name some of the most known. Other local "gems"
would be Radicandoli, Montegemoli,
and la Rocca Sillana.
Tourist attractions are not limited to the most famous places.
La Val di Cecina offers various attractions,
of which some very unique. One area for instance would be the geothermic
zone called Boracifera (Boric Acid) Regione characterized
by its suggestive natural steam holes called soffioni The soffioni
are usually arranged in groups, and are best represented and they
contain a small proportion of boric acid, for which they are utilized
industrially for clean electrical energy, tele-heating (heating
without boiler), underwater gesiers, rock geisers and hot springs.
In this area there are ruins of antique Etruscan-Roman
and renaissance hot spring baths, like the Bagnone Terme
and the Morba baths, and one can visit the Geothermia
Museum of Larderello.
For the peculiarities of this area, you can observe the unusual
flora. Aside from the hot springs of Val di Cecina, there
is a rich minerology with the presence
of copper, magnesite crystal, quartz, manganese, rock salt and alabaster,
sulphur, alumn, green vitriol and borax of the geothermic region.
